Have A Question?
We’ve tried to address our most frequently asked questions below. If your query is not answered, please do contact us directly.
Are you the same complex as Kite Beach Hotel?
We are located within the complex called Kite Beach Hotel, but the quality of accommodation/customer service we offer is entirely independent from this complex. Reviews online referring to “Kite Beach Hotel” and “Kite Beach Condos” do not refer to us. Kite Beach Hotel is now a privately-owned condominium which means the nature of the accommodation is solely dependent on the owner/manager of each condo.
Are there any hidden fees/taxes in your nightly rates, I’ve heard this is common in the DR?
Unlike other places, there are no hidden hotel/property taxes. Your rent and end-of-stay cleaning are all included in the price you see onlone. The only additional fee (as is clearly stated on online) is your electricity usage. Please see here for details.
How can I book an apartment?
Most of our bookings are completed via Airbnb. This is the most straight forward way to complete a booking as Airbnb takes care of your payment, cleaning fee and damage deposit altogether. However, Airbnb does charge our guests 7-12% to use their service.
Alternatively, you can book directly with us through direct bank transfer and pay your damage deposit in cash on arrival.
Regardless of how you book – you are protected by the same cancellation policy.
How does the Airbnb Damage Deposit work?
When Airbnb takes your payment, they save your bank card details. Airbnb does not take the damage deposit from your account unless we claim there is damage to the apartment.
Can I pay part cash when I arrive?
We do not accept cash payments on arrival. To make a booking, a guest must pay in advance and in full.
What is your cancellation policy?
We offer a 50% refund up until 1 week before arrival. Cancellations less than 1 week before arrival are non-refundable.
What is Kite beach hotel like for families, couples & solo travelers?
Kite Beach Hotel is unique in its blend of short term vacationers and long term residents living onsite all year round. This gives the place both a fun holiday feel and a friendly, social, almost-family vibe. For our guests, be them solo, couples or families, this is perfect as you’ll likely meet new people within minutes of arriving – many of whom live here and have invaluable knowledge of the local area. There are also a number of families who live onsite, so there’s always other kids to play with around the pool and gardens.
There is an impressive range of activities and tours perfect for adults and/or children. See here.
Are linens and towels provided?
Yes. Linens, beach towels and bath towels are provided in all apartments.
Is cleaning provided?
Your end-of-stay cleaning is included in your booking price. Any additional cleaning, towel change, linen washing etc can be organised for a small fee.
Is a washing machine provided? Where can I do my laundry?
The only apartment that currently includes a washing machine is “Peter’s Luxe Penthouse”. For all other apartments, you will need to pay for a maid service in order to wash your towels and sheets.
For your personal items, there are multiple laundry services in town who will wash/dry your items within 24 hours. You can even pay a motochoncho (taxi) to drop off/pick up your laundry for you.
Is electricity included?
No. The DR burns oil for electricity & this comes at a high price both financially & environmentally. Instead of assuming your electricity usage & adding it onto the base price, we have reduced our rates and will charge your usage separately. The electricity fee is largely dependent on aircon usage (Max $5/day, Max $8/day for 3bedroom apartments). Our manager will happily show you your electricity use at any point during your stay.
Do you provide any baby facilities?
We currently provide travel cots. Please ask in advance to check availability. If our personal cots are not available, you can rent one for $25/week.
Is there a coffee machine in the kitchen?
All apartments include a coffee machine. Please see the Airbnb listings for a full list of kitchen appliances.
Does Kite Beach Hotel have a back up generator?
Yes. We have a back up generator which kicks in whenever there is a local power cut.
Is there air con?
All apartments have air con fitted.
Are toiletries included?
Hand soap is included.
What type of power plug adapted do I need?
In the Dominican Republic the power sockets used are of type A and B. Check out the following pictures.
Type A: This socket does NOT work with plug B. Type B: This socket also works with plug A
I forgot to bring an adapter, where can I buy one?
You can buy an adapter at Linares here – a 5min motoconcho ride away.
We’re coming from Europe – what is the cheapest airline?
We’ve found that EuroWings (also known as German Wings) and Condor are the cheapest direct flights to Puerto Plata. Both airlines fly from multiple locations within Germany. If you can get a well-priced connection flight from your starting location to Germany, this is probably the most cost-effective option.
Skyscanner is a great place to start your flight searches.
What airport should we fly to?
Puerto Plata is ideal as it is just 20mins away from Kite Beach. Your other options are:
Santiago – 2 hours
Santo Domingo – 3 hours
Punta Cana – min. 4 hours
How do I get from the airport to the apartments?
The easiest way is to just jump in a taxi directly at the airport. The price from Puerto Plata airport to any location in Cabarete is set at $35. Ask the Taxi driver to take you to Kite Beach Hotel (in between Agualina and Extreme Hotel).
At the time of writing, there are no public transport options directly from Puerto Plata airport.
If you’d like us to arrange your airport transfer for you, please contact our Manager Dario – you will receive his contact details once you have booked.
Where are Swiss Kite Beach Condos?
Swiss Kite Beach Condos and all of our Partner Apartments are located within the Kite Beach Hotel complex. You can see our location on google maps here.
What public transport options are there in Cabarete?
Like many countries in this region, road safety in the Dominican Republic is pretty much non-existent. For this reason, we recommend private taxis as the safest and most comfortable way to travel – these can be easily located directly outside the complex.
Nonetheless, if you want to travel like a local, there are several cheap and convenient options available from directly outside our complex:
- Motoconchos – motorbike taxis that can be found pretty much everywhere. Even if you’re not looking for one, they’ll let you know they’ve found you with an opportunistic “Moto? Moto?”. Price to Cabarete: 50 pesos. At night: 100 pesos. Agree the price before getting on! Also – BEWARE of the exhaust pipe – they are HOT. Make sure you get off from the correct side.
- Guaguas – vans acting as buses that continuously drive the main road through Puerto Plata-Sosua-Cabarete-Rio San Juan. You can hop on/hop off whenever you want – expect to share your seat! Price to Cabarete: 25 pesos. At night: no service
- Carritos – ancient but charming Toyota Corollas that work similarly to Guaguas. Price to Cabarete: 35 pesos. At night: 50 pesos
Having the correct change is recommended for all public transport options and if you’re having trouble identifying what vehicle to flag down, just ask a local – they’re friendly and helpful. More transport info here.
Do I need to hire a car?
For a number of reasons, we do not recommend driving here in the Dominican Republic. You can easily get around using taxis and the numerous public transport options.
What car rental company should I use?
If you’re determined to rent a car – perhaps because you plan to tour the wider areas – we strongly recommend using OK Motors. You will easily find cheaper options – but if you’re looking for a reliable car with full insurance cover, OK Motors is the way to go.
How does your Self-Check-In work?
All our apartments our fitted with electronic combination locks – this means you can come and go as you please without using keys. Three days before check in, you will be sent the combination code which will allow you to enter the apartment. If you do not read this message, you will not be able to find or access the apartment.
Myself or my manage Dario will be round to complete your check in within your first 24 hours.
Can I check in early / Check out late?
Check in is anytime from 4pm
Check out is anytime before 11am
To ensure our cleaners work fair hours, we can not offer early check ins or late check outs. Dario our property manager will be able to store your luggage if you arrive early/leave late. Please make arrangements to ensure you check in and out at the correct times.
Do you recommend a particular Kite school and/or Surf School?
My partner and I have experience with every school here at Kite Beach. If you plan to have lessons/supervision/rental for either kiting or surfing, please do contact us so we can put you in touch directly with the best instructors here in Cabarete.
What currency is used? Where can I convert currency?
Dominican peso is the main currency used here. US dollars are used in some places, but they will use a bad exchange rate. It is best to pay everything in pesos.
Do not exchange your money at the airport! We recommend you exchange at the following places. Make sure you take your passport with you. You can find all locations online.
Is it easy to get cash out? Where can I get cash out?
As with all travelling, please do inform your personal bank that you will be travelling to the Dominican Republic. It is common that banks put a block on debit and credit cards if they are used abroad without notice.
Most ATM machines have a maximum withdrawal amount of RD$8000 pesos. If you inside the bank with your passport, you can withdraw larger amounts.
How far is Kite Beach from Cabarete town center?
Cabarete town is 5mins from Kite Beach by car and approx 25mins walk along the beach. This makes Kite Beach the perfect place to stay in Cabarete – it is easy to get to town, but just far enough away that none of the disco noise reaches us at night.
Are there supermarkets/food stores nearby Kite Beach?
2min walk – a dominican-style fruit & veg stand is just across the road & to the left of Kite Beach Hotel.
2min drive – La Rosa is a small supermarket with most items you’ll need but not much variety.
